KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Aman’s Air Wing Unit and other agencies are helping Perak police search for 130 migrants who escaped from a detention centre in Bidor, Perak, last night.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the search so far was focused on a radius around the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot, Bernama reports him saying.

Several agencies are collaborating in the search following the 9.50pm incident yesterday when 131 detainees escaped from the depot.

One of them died in an accident at KM335 on the North-South Expressway near Bidor.

On X, Bernama also reports heavy traffic due to roadblocks and screenings on the Pahang-Tapah road this morning.

This is to facilitate police in the search for the escaped detainees.

Of the 131 detainees, 114 are ethnic Rohingya and 16 are Myanmar nationals, Bernama also reports. – February 2, 2024
