KUALA LUMPUR – Daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has posted a sorrowful Instagram story amid the brouhaha over the decision of her father’s pardon petition.
In the post, Nooryana Najwa Najib shared a picture of her father in a “thinker’s” post and dressed in a pink shirt.
She also captioned it with: “Sentiasa menunggu kepulanganmu (always waiting for your return)…however long it takes.”
It was followed by a prayer hand emoji and another holding back tears.
The post was also accompanied by Riyandi Kusuma’s piano rendition of Coldplay’s Fix You.
Yesterday, speculations over Najib’s possible pardon reached a crescendo with two ministers advising the media to wait for the official statement.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s reprimand came after a Malay-language news portal reported that Najib was successful in his petition for a pardon. However, the news site withdrew the report about an hour later.
“I have also checked with the cabinet’s strategic communications unit and YB Azalina (Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said) and was informed that we have to wait for the Pardons Board,” he said in his speech at the ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya yesterday.
Also, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa confirmed that the Pardons Board convened on Monday.
While she said the meeting took place at Istana Negara here, she did not disclose the topics discussed.
The convening of the Pardons Board and its deliberations are protected by the Official Secrets Act. However, the result of Najib’s pardon bid has been a matter of speculation for weeks.
Earlier this month, Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah, said neither his client nor his office have been updated on the pardon petition that was filed some 16 months ago.
Yesterday, the country also witnessed the sending-off ceremony of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Mustafa Billah Shah as he ended his reign as Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
