KUALA LUMPUR – Two months after declaring support for the unity government, Bersatu’s Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal MP has been given a job by the prime minister in the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL).
Speaking in Perak, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Syed Hussin will help work on ways to address rising living costs.
“Today, I am with my friend, Bukit Gantang MP, Syed Abu Hussin, to work on this initiative… Our efforts are not enough if we can’t control the price of items,” Anwar was quoted saying by the New Straits Times at a Madani Sales event in Klebang Restu, this morning.
“Today, I can confirm that he will lead a NACCOL cluster (working group committee) and add more initiatives so that Madani Sales can be improved and expanded in the country,” Anwar added.
On November 28 last year, Syed Hussin declared his support for Anwar in the Dewan Rakyat, becoming the fifth lawmaker from Perikatan Nasional (PN) to do so.
Since then, he has claimed that more MPs from the opposition will voice their support of the unity government.
However, Syed Hussin did not quit Bersatu, and likewise, the other MPs who have declared support for Anwar still remain Bersatu members, so as to avoid losing their seats as required under the country’s new anti-party hopping laws.
The sixth and latest Bersatu MP to declare support for Anwar is Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, just four days ago.
The earlier MPs who did the same are Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli). – January 28, 2024
