KUALA LUMPUR – A devoted fan who sold his motorcycle to fund his journey to Qatar to lend support for Harimau Malaya at the 2023 Asian Cup, has been blessed with a new bike.

Derrick Gan, who was caught on camera wearing his heart on his sleeve during Malaysia’s 3-3 draw against South Korea yesterday, had posted on his Facebook page on December 28, seeking funds for his journey to Qatar.

“Looking for funds to Qatar! Malaysia Road to Asia! I want to sell my motorcycle to support my beloved country.

“First major tournament in Malaysia’s history. Anyone willing to help?” read his Facebook post.

Derrick listed his Yamaha LC 5S for RM4,500 on the Facebook marketplace, but it was not clear what thea actual value of the sale was.

This caught the attention of Facebook influencer Ahmad Alhafiz Najmi who promised to gift Derrick with a new motorcycle if his post reaches 10,000 likes today.

The post quickly gained traction, reaching the target in just three hours.

In a follow-up post, Alhafiz expressed his commitment, stating, “I will deliver the bike on Tuesday, the fees to change ownership and registration will be on me.

“I won’t mind if he (Derrick) wants to sell the bike (as) it will be under his ownership. I won’t interfere.” – January 26, 2024
