SANDAKAN – Sarawak politicians have chosen to keep mum over speculations that Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will be appointed the eighth Sarawak governor.

“Sorry, can’t comment yet,” Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol told Scoop.

Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen also did not want to speculate about Wan Junaidi’s appointment.

Chong, who is deputy domestic trade and consumer affairs minister told Scoop: “Not appropriate to comment on speculation.”

The speculation came after a news report said it sighted Dewan Negara president Wan Junaidi’s resignation letter.

Yesterday, Scoop reported that an aide to Wan Junaidi declined to comment on the matter, but promised that the media will be promptly informed “if there is anything”.

Current Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has held the position since March 2014. His term is ending in February. – January 20, 2024
