KUALA LUMPUR – Britain’s royal family is facing a dual health challenge, with King Charles III scheduled for treatment due to an enlarged prostate, while the Princess of Wales has undergone abdominal surgery, necessitating a hospital stay.

According to the BBC, the king will undergo a “corrective procedure” for a benign enlarged prostate next week.

Buckingham Palace announced that Charles’ public engagements would be postponed for a short period of recuperation, stating: “In common with thousands of men each year, the king has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.”

Earlier on the same day, it was also announced that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, will be hospitalised for up to two weeks for an abdominal surgery.

According to Kensington Palace, Kate underwent planned surgery at the London Clinic on Tuesday.

“The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days before returning home to continue her recovery.

“Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” Kensington Palace said.

However, further details about the princess’s health condition were not disclosed, and the palace would not provide a running commentary on her recovery. – January 18, 2024
