KUALA LUMPUR – A Malaysian man shot dead by police earlier today in Subang Jaya’s Taman Puchong Prima was a fugitive with a history of criminal records.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said gunshots were exchanged between police and the man in front of the Sri Akasia Apartment complex before the suspect was shot.
A report on the matter was received by Selangor police at 3.49pm from a police officer on duty at the Subang Jaya district police headquarters’ control centre.
“The male suspect was a citizen with a record of seven felonies, six drug-related crimes and a wanted criminal.
“Further probes are being carried out by the Subang Jaya district police headquarters’ criminal investigation department,” Hussein said in a statement today.
He added that police had been made aware of an online video concerning the incident.
“The public is advised against spreading the clip to avoid causing unrest among the community.”
Those with information on the case are advised to approach police with relevant information.
Earlier, it was reported that the man was found dead inside a car by a road in Puchong Prima.
In a 39-second clip posted on X, which has since made the rounds on social media, several men were seen shouting over each other before a loud bang was heard.
The video appeared to have been recorded by a resident from a balcony overlooking the area. – January 14, 2024
