KUALA LUMPUR – A private eye hospital is offering check-ups and subsidised treatment for residents in Lembah Pantai.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the collaboration with the OasisEye Specialists in Nexus, Bangsar South has so far assisted 50 people in the constituency with getting free eye treatment.

Fahmi, who is Lembah Pantai MP, says the initiative also helps to raise awareness about eye health within the constituency.

“We do not have a deadline for free eye check-up promotion because it is based on a case-by-case basis.

“We will get feedback from OasisEye Specialists about a (patient’s) family financial situation to channel aid, whether to lower costs, or to waive charges for treatments such as eye cataract surgery,” he said after launching OasisEye Specialists’ new wing, here, this afternoon.

Fahmi said he would continue to assist those in the B40 group to get the eye treatment, noting that he could aid more people in his capacity as a minister.

He plans to negotiate with OasisEye Specialists’ managing director, Dr Kenneth Fong, to expand its services for eye check-ups in schools, supporting both parents and children in maintaining good eye health.

Fahmi also urged residents in Lembah Pantai with eye problems to inform him about their condition to obtain proper treatment.

“This is a good effort made by OasisEye Specialists, which also oversees the corporate social responsibility to aid the low-income community, or people in need, to get eye treatment.

Meanwhile, a recent beneficiary of an eye operation, Silvaraju M. Madarajan, 63, expressed his gratitude for being given the chance to undergo a cataract surgery for free.

“Before this, I made several appointments at the government hospital but it took too long so I sought help from my friend about my condition,” he told Scoop.

“My friend helped me and one week after that, OasisEye Specialists called me for an appointment scheduled for two weeks later. Everything was done within one month.”

He highlighted the professionalism and swiftness of the surgery, lasting only 15 to 20 minutes.

Prior to the operation, Silvaraju suffered from blindness in his left eye and partial impairment in his right eye, but he now enjoys clear vision following the surgery on October 5 last year. – January 14, 2024
