KUALA LUMPUR – The prime minister’s political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has sent a letter of demand (LOD) to Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin demanding RM5 million compensation and the removal of the latter’s Facebook posts with defamatory claims.
Lawyer Datuk Sankara Nair confirmed the letter had been personally served on Badrul Hisham, also known as Chegubard, at the Setapak police station around 4.30pm today.
Chegubard’s Facebook posts on January 5 had alleged that Shamsul Iskandar had misappropriated government funds allocated for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) through supposed “proxies”.
Among other demands listed by Shamsul Iskandar in the LOD is for Chegubard to issue a public apology on the manner and form approved by his solicitors, and for the apology to be published in media outlets of the former’s choice.
Sankara also said that Shamsul Iskandar is demanding RM5 million in damages and compensation for the injuries that Chegubard had inflicted on the former’s reputation.
“He (Shamsul Iskandar) demanded Chegubard to bear the legal costs that rose from this matter, as well as a written ‘promise’ to not repeat the allegations again.
“If he fails to do all of these demands, we have been instructed to apply for an injunction order against him,” the lawyer said in a statement today.
He said if Chegubard does not respond within five days after receiving the LOD, legal action will be initiated.
