KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) will not agree to test the majority support that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim currently enjoys as it would expose the opposition bloc’s lack of numbers, claimed Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi.
In a statement via Facebook, today, Puad contended that the recent actions by opposition members were only a ruse to weaken the government despite support for PN continuing to decline in numbers.
“Actually, PN’s numbers continue to drop because seven to eight Bersatu MPs will announce their support for PMX (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).
“That’s why PN did not dare to ask for a vote (on Anwar’s majority) when Budget 2024 was approved,” he added.
Puad’s jibe at PN comes after Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor insists there are statutory declarations (SDs) by MPs ready to form a new government.
This is despite a denial by the opposition leader’s office yesterday of a viral statement alleging the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has granted an audience to 118 MPs with SDs backing PN.
Media quoted Sanusi speaking in Padang Terap, Kedah, saying there are enough SDs by MPs to bring down the unity government. – January 9, 2024
