KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a female chair of a charity organisation in Terengganu on suspicion of falsifying details in a Back to School programme application document.
The document was reportedly submitted to a government-linked company in the state.
According to a source, the woman is said to have submitted a request for RM5,000 in aid to be distributed to 100 asnaf students. In Islamic terminology, an asnaf refers to a person who is entitled to receive zakat collected from Muslims.
However, the source claimed that the students never received the financial assistance and the Back to School programme was never held.
“The suspect, who is in her early 40s, was arrested at about 12pm yesterday at the MACC’s office in Terengganu when she presented herself to submit her statement,” the source said.
They added that the source would be brought to the Kuala Terengganu sessions court tomorrow to be charged.
When contacted, state MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – January 7, 2024
