SHAH ALAM – The government is offering a RM5 rebate for those opting for digital driving licences (e-LMM) during renewals, between February 1 and December 31 this year.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said this applies to renewals at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters, mySikap portal, MyJPJ applications, Pos Malaysia and MyEG Services Bhd.
He added that this is only open to Malaysian citizens, and not for foreigners or those who have permanent residency or temporary resident identity cards.

“Opting for a digital driving licence is another step taken by the government towards encouraging digitalisation, and to ease the licence renewal process as applicants can do so via the MyJPJ mobile application. This will reduce congestion at JPJ counters.
“Those who still choose to have a physical licence and road tax (LKM) will be given a printed document with 17 security features, instead of the conventional licence card and road tax disk sticker. The usage of the new documents will begin once the existing card and sticker stock runs out.”
Asked whether it is possible for the security paper to be forged, Loke said with the 17 security features it will be “challenging” to forge.
“(But) this time, the paper does not need to be attached or displayed on the vehicle windshield as previously required by Section 20(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“On the contrary, it is kept according to the convenience of the public,” he told reporters during his work visit to JPJ Selangor headquarters here this morning.
However, he said, the road tax slip is not mandatory, which is to give time for the public to adapt to the digital system.
In 2023, there were more than 17 million road tax holders, of which 7.5 million opted for digital road tax.
This, he said, showed that the public has started to accept the digitalisation of JPJ services in time.
“It is cost-saving to opt for a digital licence as the physical card has no other function. Each card costs the government RM7.90 to produce. That is why we are giving the RM5 rebate to encourage the transition to digital licences.
“We are moving towards digitalisation but we understand not everybody is ready to accept it. In the interim, we allow some flexibility with the physical document.”
On February 10 last year, Loke introduced digital road tax renewal via the JPJ portal and MyJPJ mobile application. – January 2, 2024
