KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working around the clock to address the affected transmission stations that have been impacted by the floods in Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor, and Terengganu.
In a statement, MCMC said that as of 10am today, a total of 110 transmission stations have been affected by the floods. However, 24 of these stations are now operational after problems were resolved.
“In these trying circumstances, MCMC recognises the indispensable role of telecommunications in enabling affected individuals to connect with their families.
“The respective MCMC state offices are actively working on a solution for the remaining 86 stations that are still non-operational. They are collaborating closely with service providers to address these issues promptly,” the statement read.
At the same time, MCMC also urged the public to avoid propagating fake news or exploiting deteriorating conditions in the affected flood areas.
“Verified sources should be relied upon for sharing information. Let’s unite as Malaysians to overcome these adversities together.”
It added that individuals can reach out to the following MCMC contacts for assistance with network issues in affected states:
Earlier today, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), Kelantan remains the state with the highest number of evacuees at 17,466, who find themselves placed in 89 temporary relief centers, which is an increase compared to the 15,145 victims in 92 centers at 4pm yesterday.
In Terengganu, the number of those affected reduced to 10,103 people in 113 centers, compared to 10,199 evacuees housed at 125 centers yesterday evening.
Pahang also saw a drop in the number of evacuees, with 485 people still sheltering in nine centers compared to 590 in 13 centers yesterday.
