KUALA LUMPUR – Preliminary investigations carried out by authorities on allegations that a police station chief in Port Dickson sent lewd messages to a married woman were revealed to be untrue and unfounded.

Port Dickson district police chief, Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said screenshots of the alleged accusation, which were shared via the Telegram application, are also suspected to be malicious to diminish the credibility of the police chief and tarnish the reputation of the entire force.

As a matter of fact, the police have yet to receive any police report from the individual involved or the woman who is said to be a victim, as alleged in the chat application.

“On Monday (December 25) at approximately 1.15pm, a message went viral on Telegram alleging the Lukut police station chief of harassing and sending lewd messages to a woman.

“Initial investigations found it was untrue and suspected of malicious accusations aimed at tarnishing the image of the police chief and the force,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

He said, however, that further investigations will be carried out from a disciplinary perspective, adding that strict action will be taken if any violation is found.

Police also warned against circulating these messages, citing potential liability under the Penal Code and the Multimedia Communications Act.

Earlier, a screenshot of a message exchange between two individuals – allegedly the police chief and a woman – went viral on Telegram.

The messages were purportedly sent between 5.31am and 5.38am on the same day. In these messages, the man in question asked if the woman was sleeping and if she missed him.

He then asked what type and colour of attire she was wearing and pressed several times for an answer.

The man also asked if the woman’s husband was with her or not.

However, the woman did not answer the questions and instead told him to stop harassing her.

The contact information of the alleged man was saved as that of the Lukut police station chief in the viral message.

This prompted numerous netizens to call for an investigation into the matter and to demand that the officer be prosecuted if the allegations are proven true. – December 27, 2023
