KUALA LUMPUR – At least six people are dead and tens of thousands of households have been affected since the floods hit southern Thailand on December 22.
Among those killed were an 89-year old woman and a toddler in Narathiwat, while one person has been missing, said deputy provincial governor Preecha Nualnoi.
The floods have hit more than 70,000 houses in Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces, reported AFP.
Videos being shared on social media showed streets filled with mud, and residents climbed up to their roofs as their houses were inundated.
Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department was quoted as saying that water levels subsided this morning and some of Narathiwat’s rail services have resumed. – December 27, 2023
