KUALA LUMPUR – The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has instructed the State and District Disaster Management Committees in Pahang, Terengganu and Johor to be activated following the continuous rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department today.

In a Disaster Operations Preparedness Notice issued by the National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC) under Nadma today, the State and District Disaster Management Committees are required to increase their level of readiness for potential disasters, especially in high-risk areas.

Nadma added that the committees are tasked with ensuring that every relief centre is equipped with sufficient facilities while all control posts on scene have functional operational assets ready for deployment.

“Nadma, through the NDCC, will constantly monitor the situation and technical information parameters while working with various technical agencies,” it said in the statement.

The Meteorological Department earlier cautioned that continuous rain is expected to occur in Terengganu’s Dungun and Kemaman as well as several vicinities in Pahang, such as Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin.

Besides that, Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi in Johor are also scheduled to face continuous rainfall.

Earlier today, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that a number of rivers have exceeded their danger levels, namely Sg Kuantan in Kuantan as well as Sg Terengganu in Hulu Terengganu, Sg Kemaman in Kemaman, Sg Setiu and Sg Terengganu in Setiu, Sg Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu, and Sg Dungun in Dungun. — December 26, 2023
