KAJANG – Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has been instructed to work on upgrading its monorail platform screen doors which have been malfunctioning for years now, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Pointing to how there have been several recorded instances where blind commuters fell onto the train tracks since the platform screen doors could not be closed, Loke said that Prasarana will be looking into ways to address the matter.

“We do have intentions to upgrade our monorail systems, especially the platform screen doors which have been inoperational for a few years now due to how its system cannot be integrated with the monorail system.

“We have requested that Prasarana solve the issue,” Loke told reporters today, adding that a new contractor had to be appointed to upgrade the platform screen doors as the original contractor is no longer in business.

He also noted that the project is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024.

The minister said this when addressing a press conference at the Kajang MRT station after launching the Women-Only Coaches for the Kajang MRT line.

Loke was earlier questioned on an incident on December 19 when a monorail tire had caught on fire and fallen on the road near the Titiwangsa station.

Commenting on the matter, the minister said that Prasarana is looking into the cause behind the sudden fire and will present a report to the ministry once it has completed its findings.

“The incident was reported to the ministry and Prasarana is in the process of identifying how the fire started.

“Neither injuries were reported from the incident, nor were daily operations affected,” he added. – December 21, 2023
