PUCHONG – Nine households affected by the landslide in Taman Wawasan, Puchong, last night, will receive RM1,000 each from Subang MP Wong Chen, whose parliamentary constituency covers the Kinrara state seat where the incident occurred.
The emergency funds are meant to help them defray costs incurred from staying at a hotel or to buy groceries, he said, as they have been ordered to vacate their homes.
“I have spoken to them, so (representatives) of the nine families are invited to my office tomorrow (Monday), and we will give them RM1,000,” Wong said today, while visiting the site.
He added that his office will look at giving a further RM1,000 to each of the families for a second week, depending on the situation, as remedial works to strengthen the embankment where the landslide occurred are underway.
Wong said the conditions in the area would take about a week or more to be improved.
The landslide on a road embankment in front of houses on Jalan Wawasn 3/9 occurred at 7.26pm yesterday following heavy rainfall. No one was injured though four vehicles were damaged.
The landslide took off a chunk of road right in front of some homes and at present, the residents of nine houses have been ordered to vacate.
A total of 26 houses near the affected area will undergo structural checks, while 375 iron piles are being inserted into the soil to strengthen the collapsed embankment.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mat Yatim, who was also at the site this morning, said the soil in the area was still not stable.
“Further soil movement is still dangerous and in such conditions, we still have to be careful to prevent other slopes nearby from collapsing,” he told reporters earlier today.
While only nine houses have been ordered to vacate, Fauzi advised nearby residents to do the same for a better sense of safety.
The Subang Jaya City Council has opened a temporary evacuation centre at its multipurpose hall in Laman Puteri 3 to house affected families. – December 17, 2023
