KUALA LUMPUR – The flash floods have hit Puchong, resulting in IOI Mall’s premises being inundated this evening.

Facebook user Siti Hajar Mohd Tahir shared several videos of mall-goers wading in ankle-deep waters at the ground floor.

The video showed the people were stranded as the parking lot was also flooded.

Another Facebook user, Aashaf Jamaluddin, also posted a video of a handful of mall workers trying to sweep the water out of their shop and putting some barrels at the shopfront.

However, the mall-goers did not seem overly bothered with the flood and went about their business calmly.

In a tweet, Subang Jaya City Council announced the flood levels of the drains around IOI Mall Puchong have surpassed the danger level.

The related agencies under Disaster Management Unit have been instructed to prepare for any rescue operation.

“Road users who are heading to the affected areas should look for alternative routes. All nearby residents are to take precautions and be ready to evacuate if necessary.”

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Highway Authority tweeted that the left and middle lanes at KM21.5 are closed from Puchong Intan to IOI Mall Puchong due to the floods.

The northbound traffic also slowed to a crawl.

At the same time, Section 13 in Shah Alam is inundated with almost knee-deep waters due to the downpour that lasted for several hours.

The Shah Alam City Council warned the public against going to several affected areas such as Persiaran Kayangan (in front of the Concorde Hotel), Persiaran Sukan, Section 13, Puspakom intersection, Section 16, Persiaran Masjid, Section 5 and Jalan Kapar in Section 27.

Motorists have been urged to avoid using the Section U12 tunnel in Shah Alam following the rise in water level due to heavy rain.

For any emergency or urgent assistance due to flooding in Shah Alam, the public can contact the Pantas team at 03-5510 5811. – December 16, 2023
