KUALA LUMPUR – No new leads have emerged in the investigation into the murder of 6-year-old autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, says Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.
However, he said the police have recorded 172 statements from residents at the Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai, where Zayn Rayyan’s body was discovered, as reported by The Malaysian Insight.
“The investigation is ongoing, and so far, no new leads have been found. My team continues to search for clues in the area,” Hussein added.
It was reported that a reenactment of the events leading to Zayn Rayyan’s death in his neighbourhood was carried out yesterday by a forensic team from Bukit Aman and the Selangor headquarters.
The team arrived at the apartment blocks in Damansara Damai around 11am, accompanied by a child who had allegedly seen Zayn Rayyan on the evening of his disappearance on December 5.
The report said the child had reenacted the boy’s movements.
The simulation of events was conducted by the forensic team at Block R before taking the child witness to the staircase near some bushes.
The media were only allowed to take pictures and observe from a distance and prohibited from approaching the apartment area.
The reenactment exercise involved two child witnesses, friends of the victim aged 6 and 9, to determine if there was any new evidence from the staircase of Block R leading to the creek where Zayn Rayyan’s body was found.
The police had previously conducted mass screenings of residents, leading to the discovery of two children who claimed that they saw Zayn Rayyan on the second and third floors of Block R at the apartment on December 5.
Statements from 86 individuals were also recorded by the police to facilitate the case.
They also collected an additional 10 DNA samples, bringing the total to 238 samples collected so far.
