KUALA LUMPUR – The unity government will still lead the country after upcoming 16th General Elections (GE16) concludes, according to Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, expressed his confidence due to the increasing support from civil servants, whom he described as “an important vote bank” during each election.
“Civil servants’ votes for us (PH-BN) during (GE15) were bad due to the allegations the government would change during the by-elections in six states but the government did not change.
“I’m confident that after four years the government will not change and the civil servants will support us,” he said when inaugurating the 2023 Amanah Youth National Convention, today.
According to Mat Sabu, Sarawak, Johor, Melaka and Penang continue to strongly support the unity government due to majority support by parties within the ruling coalition.
However, he said the unwavering support from states led by the government still was not enough.
He said the government needs to focus on winning voters from states led by the opposition, where the majority of voters are Malays and Muslim.
“Look at the political developments and the atmosphere, God willing, there will be a sufficient majority to form the government (after GE16).
“But what about Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis? In these four states, we only have one parliamentary seat, namely Sungai Petani.
“It means we cannot continue to be the government without the support of Malays and Muslims,” he added. – December 16, 2023
