KUALA LUMPUR – Madani Malaysia, the guiding principle of the unity government in steering the country’s development, extends beyond economic considerations, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In contrast, Anwar underscored that Madani Malaysia also serves as the foundation for the flourishing of artistic and cultural domains as the nation advances.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman expressed the desire for artistic endeavours, particularly in Islamic art, to thrive amidst the waves of modernisation.

“Madani Malaysia is not solely about economic prowess. It encompasses nature and culture as well. Our Malay world, rooted in Islam, stands as the cornerstone of our regional resurgence, reflecting the assimilation of consciousness.

“Paintings, carvings, and profound works of knowledge hold immense significance as they emanate from conscientious thought, manifested in the form of paintings, calligraphy, and other exquisite artworks,” he said.

Anwar made these comments during the inauguration of the exhibitions titled Journey Through Islamic Art and Alif Lam Ra: Contemporary Muslim Calligraphy, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.

Accompanying him were his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and Albukhary Foundation chairman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary.

The exhibitions spotlight the museum’s pivotal role as a custodian, preserver, and educator of Islamic art since its establishment in December 1998.

Anwar further urged the younger generation and society at large to actively support art exhibitions, particularly in museums, and to leverage them continually.

At the same time, the Tambun MP advocated for the extensive promotion of Malaysian batik as a symbol of national art. – December 12, 2023
