KUALA LUMPUR – Police believe that a single individual was involved in the death of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin based on the evidence gathered so far.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said this is also based on the injuries found on the victim’s neck and body.
“We are looking at all possible angles; all police databases and also the mass screening. We hope to achieve positive leads so we can catch this perpetrator.
“As for now, the available leads point to one individual. There are many questions that need to be answered, and we need facts that can answer those questions.
“However, we did not find any items that could lead to the perpetrator. We are still searching. We don’t want to work with speculation, so please give some space to police to do their work.”
He told reporters this when met at Istana Alam Shah in Shah Alam earlier today, during the investiture ceremony in conjunction with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 78th birthday celebration.
Investigators are also not dismissing the possibility that Zayn Rayyan was dumped at a riverbank near his house on the evening of December 6.
Hussein said the possibility arose after seeing that the body was found last Wednesday night, despite canvassing the location before the discovery.
“We conducted a search for Zayn on the morning of the same day but couldn’t find him. So we then searched again at night and found the body.
“It is possible that (the victim’s body) was dumped in the afternoon when it was raining heavily that day.”
Zayn Rayyan was reported missing last Tuesday and found dead the next night some 100m from Block R at the Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai.
Hussen also said police received dashcam footage from the residents, and the review process is ongoing.
On the storeroom that was inspected by the forensic unit yesterday, Hussein said police are ensuring the storage area is included in the investigation.
“This is an open (ongoing) investigation and we are looking at it from various angles, whether from inside or outside the area. We don’t want to miss anything in this investigation.” – December 11, 2023
