PETALING JAYA – A forensic unit has arrived at the site where the body of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin was found a day after he was reported missing.

Unit personnel from the Selangor police force were seen inspecting the area where the boy’s body was discovered on Wednesday night.

Three tracking dogs from Bukit Aman’s K9 Unit were also dispatched to aid police investigations.

All three of the German Shepherds, named Ruby, Jimmy and Mark, were spotted making their way to the riverbank where Zayn Rayyan’s body was discovered.

The canines were deployed in stages. It is believed that no more dogs from the K9 Unit will be sent out here for today.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Baharudin Taib has also arrived to oversee on-site operations, while media personnel have been told to remain a distance away from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya police chief Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said cops will continue collecting information from apartment residents.

When contacted, he said the police will obtain statements from residents of 15 other apartment blocks after having completed door-to-door inquiries and searches on 540 units in three blocks.

“We have a lot of matters to look into during our investigation. We’ll be getting statements from residents so we can narrow down our investigations.”

Zayn Rayyan’s tragic death is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after signs of strangulation and defensive wounds were found on his body, which was discovered next to a stream about 100m from his family’s residence here.

Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had previously said the child was believed to have been murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped here.

As such, he said police are not excluding the possibility of the killer being someone who is familiar with the area.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan yesterday said the autopsy on Zayn Rayyan revealed no signs of long-term abuse. – December 9, 2023
