Police yet to discover clues about 6-year-old’s killer

KUALA LUMPUR – Parents of the murdered 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin could be summoned again by police even though they spoke to the couple again last night.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid told Scoop that authorities will be taking statements from neighbours and witnesses soon as part of their investigations.

“So far, there have been no clues (about the perpetrator).”

Police will also be at the crime scene until investigations are over.

Last night, Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said Zayn Rayyan had died due to asphyxiation and possibly murdered at a different location around 48 hours before the body was discovered

Noting that Zayn Rayyan’s body was covered in a number of defensive wounds, Shuhaily added that police are not excluding the possibility of a local familiar with the crime scene having something to do with the murder.

“We’re still looking at it. We have not dismissed the possibility (of someone familiar with the area) being a suspect (as) the site (where Zayn’s body was found) is rarely used as a passageway.”

Zayn Rayyan, who was reported missing on Tuesday in Damansara Damai, was found dead in a stream near his residence at Idaman Apartment in Damansara Damai the next day.

On Wednesday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said Zayn Rayyan’s death was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Hussein also said the child’s parents will be recalled for questioning amid police’s decision to establish a special task force to investigate the alleged murder. – December 8, 2023
