KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s elevated position in the global arena can be attributed to the nation’s stable political situation as well as the sincere efforts by various ministries, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier tonight.
In a televised interview with TV3, in commemoration of the Madani government’s first anniversary, Anwar said that the country has managed to significantly improve its international standing through the clear communication of its policies.
“Malaysia’s profile is much higher now. People have connected this with me, but it’s actually because of our stable politics and the commitment displayed by our team (of government representatives),” Anwar said.
“The way in which we convey our policies, based on the Madani Economic Framework, has boosted investors’ confidence as they are aware of the direction of our many industries, including our efforts with renewable energy and digital transformations.”
Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, expressed his confidence in the possibility of the nation achieving greater heights as long as the local political situation does not jeopardise potential growth.
“Let us be peaceful and stable. Yes, we cannot control everything, but… if you (opposition) want to fight, let’s do it during the next general election where we can battle it out according to the rules.”
“For now, let’s focus on developing the nation and avoiding negative elements,” the prime minister said, adding in jest that while he would like to cut down on his overseas visits in the coming months, such trips benefit the nation’s economy by pulling in foreign investment.
Anwar also said that an important unit will be established under the Prime Minister’s Department to monitor the implementation of Madani programmes to ensure that such initiatives do not merely result in “half victories.”
“To show the people that we are not getting too comfortable in governing the country, the unit will ensure that our programmes or initiatives will not have failed implementations.”
Previously, it was reported that within a year of helming Putrajaya for the first time, Anwar had successfully attracted approximately RM312 billion in investment commitments for Malaysia through 22 ministerial-level trips to 14 foreign countries.
The string of official visits saw the prime minister returning not only with confirmed and prospective investments for the betterment of Malaysia’s economic growth, but also provided the nation with an opportunity to display its stance on important global issues.
Political analysts earlier opined that Anwar’s achievements during his past year in office has been no mean feat, adding that it would be remiss to claim that his administration has taken a backseat in efforts to improve the nation’s global standing. – December 5, 2023
