KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood victims placed in temporary flood relief centres in Kelantan has increased while it has dropped in Terengganu as of 8pm.
Selangor is the third state to open relief centres to evacuate its flood victims.
In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees continues to increase to 709 people from 201 families as of 7.45pm tonight, compared to 531 people from 144 families this morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info portal, a total of 232 victims from Pasir Mas involving 79 families are taking shelter at SK Tok Deh, while 56 victims from 16 families are placed at SK Kedai Tanjung.
In Bachok, 354 victims from 90 families are placed in SK Jelawat and 67 total victims from 16 families at SK Beris Panchor.
The flood situation in Terengganu is recovering when the number of victims in six relief centres in four districts recorded 326 evacuees from 73 families, compared to 621 evacuees from 147 families in 12 relief centres in seven districts this morning.
According to the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee, in Kuala Terengganu 91 victims from 22 families are still housed in two relief centres while in Besut 176 victims from 39 families are taking shelter at a relief centre.
In Dungun, 50 victims from 10 families are taking refuge in two relief centres while in Setiu, only nine victims are placed in one relief centre.
It said six relief centres in Kemaman, Marang and Kuala Nerus were closed this afternoon, after all the evacuees were allowed to return home.
In Selangor, a relief centre was opened on Friday and another one today, housing 83 evacuees from 29 families, according to the disaster info portal.
The relief centres are at Rantau Panjang City Hall, with 47 victims and SK Sultan Abdul Aziz, housing 36 flood victims. – November 26, 2023
