CHUKAI – The actions of Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders who keep harping on cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and DAP in the Kemaman by-election campaign only goes to show that they have run out of issues, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
He said that the leaders and supporters of BN and DAP have no problem working together to ensure the victory of the BN candidate in the by-election.
“I can go down with Umno leaders tonight to campaign together. Umno people also have no problem, we go down to the Chinese area and go to the coffee shop to talk.
“If we are too obsessed with old sentiments, this will not lead us anywhere. This is the old politics they are playing. Don’t forget that PAS used to cooperate with DAP,” he said after meeting with Chinese voters here last night.
Loke said the issue should not be capitalised on as voters are now wise enough to judge what is best for them.
The manifestation, he said, was the result of the recent Pelangai by-election, which witnessed the BN candidate garnering 98% of the votes of the Chinese community in the Pahang constituency.
“People want to see that when we have political cooperation, whether the government is efficient or not in administering the country to help the people,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that Chinese voters in Kemaman will give their support to the BN candidate, Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, on polling day.
“The most challenging part is the voter turnout percentage. If they (Chinese voters) come out, I am sure they will vote for the BN candidate,” he said.
In the December 2 by-election, Raja Mohamed Affandi will battle it out in a straight fight against Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, representing PAS. – November 24, 2023
