KUALA LUMPUR – People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D’Cruz has been laid to rest at the Cheras Christian Cemetery here today.

After the funeral mass at the Church of St Joseph in Sentul at 10.30am, the cortege made a stop at the myPPP headquarters in Kg Attap here where members draped a party flag over D’Cruz’s coffin.

The hearse was then accompanied by party members dressed in white for a short procession before making its way to the cemetery.

The wake yesterday was attended by several party leaders, such as senior vice-president Datuk Loga Bala Mohan, who is now myPPP acting president, as well as vice-presidents, supreme council members and party members.

It was also attended by other leaders in the Indian community, including former MIC president Tan Sri Dr S. Subramaniam and Malaysian Indian United Party founder Tan Sri S. Nallakaruppan.

Also present was Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

Today, D’Cruz was also handed a posthumous victory after the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Tan Sri M. Kayveas’ bid to initiate a judicial review to cancel his party presidency.

D’Cruz won the party presidency unopposed in March following the party’s annual general meeting.

He died suddenly just after midnight on November 17 after being admitted to Klang Hospital the night before.

He was complaining of severe chest pains, before passing away at the hospital.

The 67-year-old, who was a former senator, had previously served in the BN-led administration as deputy information, communications and culture minister between 2010 and 2012. – November 20, 2023
