KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia scored the lowest at 74% in on-time performance for their domestic flights in the third quarter (Q3) this year.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke (Seremban-PH), airlines operating domestic flights in Malaysia scored an overall 79% in Q3, compared to 82% in the previous quarter.

SKS Airways is the best performer at 95%, followed by MASwings (93%), Batik Air Malaysia (82%) and FireFly (77%), according to Loke’s parliamentary written reply today in response to Oscar Ling (Sibu-PH).

He added that the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) is in the process of determining performance standards for “accuracy achievement” and flight cancellation rates for local carriers.

This is estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.

Previously, Loke said his ministry would table a bill on the proposed merger between Mavcom and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia into one entity during Parliament’s first sitting next year.

Meanwhile, in his reply, Loke said Malaysia logged 381,475 flights between January and October this year, compared to 514,896 in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Airports in Malaysia also recorded 62.8 million arrivals as of September, and the government is targeting to achieve 87.8 million arrivals by the year’s end.

“Arrivals are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels next year,” said Loke in his reply.

“The best recovery was domestic arrivals at a rate of 84.4%, followed by Asean passengers at 77.5% and 63.4% for other international arrivals.” – November 16, 2023
