KUALA LUMPUR – Terengganu Bersatu chief Datuk Razali Idris will be investigated for sedition, among others, after allegedly accusing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of misconduct in the handling of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s case.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Utusan Malaysia that the probe will be carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (misuse of network).

He added that a Grade 32 MACC officer made a report at 9am yesterday denying “external involvement” in Syed Saddiq’s case, and that the high court’s decision was made without influence from anyone.

Yesterday, MACC said in a statement that it lodged a report on a TikTok clip uploaded by @wancin11 that had Razali apparently making several false accusations during his speech at the party’s Kemaman election machinery launch on November 10.

Razali allegedly accused the government of controlling its machinery, MACC and judges as well as questioning the high court’s decision to convict Syed Saddiq.

On November 9, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid sentenced Syed Saddiq to serve seven years in jail, two whips, and a RM10 million fine after finding the Muar MP guilty on all four counts of criminal breach of trust, money laundering, and misappropriating RM1.12 million.

The stay of sentence execution is granted pending the appeal at the Court of Appeal.

Syed Saddiq also stepped down as Muda president hours later on the same day. – November 16, 2023
