KUALA LUMPUR – Former chief justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad has denied that he is a panellist at the ‘Dialog Pulangkan Najib’ programme being held in Melaka tonight.

In a statement issued today, Hamid said that he has no knowledge of the event and never agreed to appear in any capacity.

“I vehemently deny the information in the advertisement poster that was published.

“I do not know anything about the dialogue, I never agreed to appear as a speaker or in any capacity whatsoever.

“I demand that the relevant parties withdraw the poster and issue an apology to me.”

The poster Hamid was referring to was first shared on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s official Facebook page on November 10. It currently has more than 5,500 likes.

Among the listed speakers were Hamid, Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, former Dewan Negara president Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa, and student activist Farhan Khairudin.

In September 2022, Hamid wrote a lengthy opinion on whether Najib should be given a royal pardon.

Among the points he made was “whether a trial is fair depends if the decision is valid according to the law, not according to the feelings of the public let alone the members of a political party who are necessarily biased (partisan)”.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence in Kajang Prison after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for misappropriating over RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd in August 2022. – November 12, 2023
