KUALA LUMPUR — Bersatu is set to file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), alleging the agency’s potential involvement in a case concerning several Bersatu MPs declaring support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also said that a high-ranking MACC official may be implicated in the case.
“We have gathered evidence and will report to the police, MACC, and to MACC itself because there might be involvement from their highest officials. There may be a role played by MACC’s top officials.
“This also involves individuals with the title of Tan Sri who issue threats if parliamentarians do not comply… there is an element of intimidation, aiming to garner support through offers of millions of ringgit,” he said during a press conference after presiding over a special Bersatu supreme council meeting at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) headquarters this evening.
Muhyiddin also claimed that Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim had disclosed during the Kelantan state Bersatu meeting that he had received offers, all of which were declined.
However, a few days later, Azizi declared his support for the Unity Government, raising suspicions of a potential violation of MACC provisions, Muhyiddin said.
“This action is irresponsible and has generated a negative response towards Bersatu and its leadership,” he said
Meanwhile, Bersatu’s supreme council is referring the cases of Azizi and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik to the party’s disciplinary board.
The party had recently suspended the memberships of Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman for making similar declarations.
Yesterday, Bersatu’s Bukit Gantang MP, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, pledged support for Anwar’s leadership, and provided the unity government allocates funding for the development of his constituency.
In the Dewan Rakyat, Syed Abu Hussin sought RM30 million for the installation of street lights and the construction of roads across five sub-districts and three state assembly seats in his area. – November 10, 2023
