KUALA LUMPUR – Jeli MP Zahari Kechik is the fourth Bersatu lawmaker to pledge his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Zahari said in a statement today that he is ready to face any disciplinary action from his party.

“My support is such until the next general election. And I would like to emphasise that my declaration of support for the 10th prime minister is without any coercion, influence or pressure from anybody.

“It was made on my own free will, for the sake of the people in the Jeli constituency.”

He said the decision was made after thorough consideration of the issues faced by the people, including rising costs of living as well as constituency development.

“The rakyat’s welfare has always been a priority and development must continue without compromise. As the Jeli MP, it is my duty to provide only the best service for the people within the constituency.

“However, I am still loyal to Bersatu.”

His support for Anwar includes declaring support for any policies or initiatives that the government undertakes to restore the nation’s economy and prioritises public welfare.

Bersatu’s Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid declared his support for Anwar on October 12, followed by Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.

The other three lawmakers also cited their switch in support was decided after taking into consideration the welfare of their constituents. – November 8, 2023
