KUALA LUMPUR – Gua Musang MP, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, is the latest Bersatu lawmaker to announce his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mohd Azizi Abu Naim says he made this announcement with the aim of enhancing economic recovery and alleviating the financial burdens faced by the rakyat.
In a press statement released today, Azizi expressed his commitment to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, after hearing and studying the tabling of Budget 2024.
“My decision is aimed at ensuring the welfare of the residents in my parliamentary constituency is safeguarded and will continue to receive various benefits, including the enhancement of infrastructure facilities as I have requested to be implemented in my constituency during my term of service,” he said in the statement posted on his Facebook page.
Azizi also conveyed his support for the government’s initiatives that prioritise the well-being of the nation’s citizens.
“I have no intention of leaving or betraying the Parti Bersatu. However, to ensure that my parliamentary constituency of Gua Musang aligns with the federal government, it is appropriate for me to be part of the leadership team in Putrajaya led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”
The MP concluded his statement with a message to the people of Gua Musang, encouraging them to unite in prayer for the continued blessings of the region and the realisation of their hopes for development.
Azizi’s announcement comes only several hours after Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman became the second Bersatu lawmaker to be suspended from the party, following reports of him backing Anwar’s leadership.
In a statement today, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that Suhaili, who is also the party’s Labuan and Federal Territories division chief, has been suspended for a six-year period.
Hamzah added that the decision was reached after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component member’s disciplinary board held a meeting today to investigate allegations of Suhaili violating party rules.
Previously, Suhaili said that his decision to support Anwar was due to the various challenges faced by his constituents, including escalating costs of living as well as issues related to water and electricity supply in Labuan.
On November 4, Bersatu suspended the membership of Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid for four years.
Iskandar had cited ongoing complaints from his constituents and the pressing need to address the rising cost of living in his constituency as reasons for his stance. – November 7, 2023
