KUALA LUMPUR – The Meteorological Department, METMalaysia, has issued an advisory that thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains are expected in cities and townships across Kuala Lumpur and 12 states, with the exception of Melaka.
The warning was issued at 4.30pm and cautioned the public over heavy rain lasting until 7pm this evening.
The affected states include Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, Sabah and Johor.
“A warning is issued when there’s a sign of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20mm/hour, or which is expected to last for more than an hour.
“Thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue,” it said.
Some of the affected areas include the Kedah localities of Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, while in Penang they are North Seberang Prai, Central Seberang Prai and South Seberang Prai.
Others consist of Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Central Perak, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang), Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang).
Also affected are Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu and Dungun), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut and Rompin), Negri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau), Johor (Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru), Sarawak in Miri (Marudi) and Limbang, and Sabah on its west coast (Papar and Kota Kinabalu), Kudat (Kota Marudu) and rural Beaufort. – November 3, 2023
