Perak mufti heads list of state award recipients

Datuk Wan Zahidi Wan Teh to be a ‘Datuk Seri’ after getting state’s highest award

IPOH – Perak Mufti Datuk Wan Zahidi Wan Teh tops the list of 238 recipients of state awards and medals in conjunction with the 67th birthday celebration of Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today.

Wan Zahidi, 81, who was appointed Perak mufti on August 1 last year, is the recipient of the state’s highest award, the Dato’ Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak – which carries the title “Datuk Seri”.

In addition to Wan Zahidi, Public Service Director-General Datuk Seri Zulkapli Mohamed will also be conferred the same award.

Chief of Defence Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay receive the Dato’ Seri Panglima Taming Sari award, which carries the title “Datuk Seri Panglima”.

Perak state finance officer Mohd Zaki Mahyuddin receives the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini, which carries the title “Datuk”, while a total of 13 recipients will be awarded the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak, which also carries the title “Datuk”. 

Among the recipients of the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak award are state women’s executive councillor Salbiah Mohamed and former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye, who is also a former Gopeng MP.

The New Straits Times Press group managing editor cum Berita Harian group editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, Malaysian high commissioner to India Muzafar Shah Mustafa, and CST Auto Group Of Companies chief executive P. Chandrasekaran also receive the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak award.

Bernama’s former chief executive, Roslan Ariffin, is among the 14 recipients of the Darjah Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini award.

Other awards and medals to be conferred are the Dato’ Pahlawan Taming Sari award, which carries the title of “Datuk Pahlawan” (five recipients); Darjah Paduka Mahkota Perak (29); Darjah Ahli Cura Si Manja Kini (21); Darjah Ahli Mahkota Perak (43); Pingat Pekerti Terpilih (60); Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (33); and Pingat Lama Perkhidmatan (15).

Three athletes who won medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, namely Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, Shereen Samson Vallabouy and Muhd Syafiq Puteh, are among the recipients of the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian medal. 

Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin announced that the investiture ceremony will be held in two sessions, with the first session this Sunday and the second on November 18.

He said both sessions will be held at the Balairong Seri of Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

He said this year’s celebration will begin with the recital of the surah yassin and doa selamat, which will be held at the Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar during Friday prayers.

The same programmes will also be held in all district mosques throughout Perak, led by the Orang Besar Jajahan and district officers according to their precinct, he said.

The people of Perak are also called to celebrate together and enliven the occasion by flying the state flag in their office buildings, businesses and residences. – November 3, 2023
