Flash floods hit several areas in Shah Alam, uprooting trees

Among the places inundated are Setia Alam, Section 6, Section 7 (i-City), Section U12 and Taman Botani Negara

KUALA LUMPUR – Flash floods have hit several areas in Shah Alam, including Setia Alam, Section 6, Section 7 (i-City), Section U12 and Taman Botani Negara, uprooting trees, causing minor accidents and damaging some structures.

The heavy rain also inundated the tunnels at Cahaya Alam U12 and Desa Alam U12 in Shah Alam and motorists have been advised to avoid the area and opt for alternative routes.

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) said a tree had fallen and damaged a wooden structure at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam.

Also, council workers are clearing fallen trees along Jalan Permata 7/1 in Section 7, Bulatan Mestika in Section 6, and Jalan Selasih U12/13 in Section U12.

By 6pm, the Setia Alam Promenade roundabout was inundated, closing off access while motorists were directed to other roads.

Meanwhile, netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) to lament about the flooded roads in i-City.

X user known as brgsjks posted a video at 4.36pm showing several cars stuck in along a flooded road in i-City, while he sat in his Proton Satria in the middle of the road avoiding the inundated stretch.

As for X user known as diinikhairudin, who posted a video and photo at 5.58pm, showing a thunderstorm at the Central i-City mall. – November 1, 2023
