KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched his book Anwar Triumphs today, recounting the trials and tribulations of his extraordinary political journey and struggle in the country.

The book, authored by Australian criminal lawyer Mark Trowell, also delves into Anwar’s navigation of the country’s intricate political landscape.

Commenting on the book, Trowell said that the 195-page book holds historical turning points in Anwar’s decades-long political career.

“The book unveils the dramatic fall of the Pakatan Harapan coalition and the political upheaval following strategic actions taken by interested parties to consolidate power.

“It narrates the extraordinary journey of Anwar Ibrahim, his triumph over long-standing rivals, political betrayals and his bold initiatives to strengthen the nation.

“The narrative reaches its climax in the history of the 15th general election, leading to a hung Parliament, before Anwar’s appointment as the 10th prime minister,” he said during the book launch at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, this evening.

Trowell also held a book signing session to give attendees the opportunity to obtain their personal copies of the book.

Furthermore, Trowell mentioned that the title “Anwar Triumphs” not only signifies Anwar’s ascent to the position of prime minister but also highlights the achievements of the reform movement championed by the PKR president over the years.

“The unique aspect of this book is that it records the actual events, serving as a contemporary record rather than something written years later when memories become foggy and forgotten,” he explained.

In a special gesture, Trowell presented a bouquet of flowers to the prime minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as a token of appreciation for her sacrifices and significant role in the country’s politics, especially as a steadfast supporter of Anwar.

Trowell also explained that this was why the book’s cover featured a picture of Anwar alongside Dr Wan Azizah on the day he was sworn in as prime minister.

“We want to acknowledge Wan Azizah’s role and sacrifices as a supporter of the Reformasi agenda during Anwar’s imprisonment, as a mother, the deputy prime minister’s wife, and the country’s first lady,” he said.

Sharing the inspiration behind his idea to write a book about Anwar, he said that, as a legal practitioner, he found the leader’s struggle intriguing.

He added that he produced the book on Anwar through observations, including his previous work on the leader, notably during his time as an international observer during the 2004 appeal case.

In addition to this latest book, Mark Trowell’s previous literary works include The Prosecution of Anwar Ibrahim: The Final Play and Anwar Returns: The Final Twist.

“The legal aspect interests me because I am a lawyer, but Anwar’s struggle truly provides a rare insight into Malaysian politics, alongside the societal tensions caused by the multicultural population,” he said.

Anwar Triumphs is available at all major bookstores across the country starting today. – October 29, 2023
