TAWAU – A Tawau Hospital cleaner was shocked to find a dead newborn boy inside a toilet tank yesterday morning.

Tawau district police chief Jasmin Hussin said the body was found at 7.10am in the women’s toilet of the emergency ward.

Jasmin said in a statement last night that police are investigating the case under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body. If found guilty, the offender faces prison time that may extend to two years or with fine, or both.

Sabah recorded three baby dumping cases in June.

On June 10, a newborn with its umbilical cord still attached was found floating near the Kg Tg Aru Lama water village in Kota Kinabalu.

Two days later, a healthy baby boy was abandoned on top of a chicken coop in Lahad Datu.

On June 14, a baby boy was found abandoned after being born less than a day underneath a stilt house at Kg Sapat in Papar. – October 15, 2023
