There is no infighting in Amanah, delegates will decide election: Mujahid

Amanah Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan said speculation ahead of any party election is expected

KUALA LUMPUR – There is no truth to two factions reportedly fighting for top spots in Amanah’s internal election taking place on December 23 and 24.

Party vice-president Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa said there is no power grab taking place because the election results are determined by the delegates.

“They need to choose 27 people from the candidate pool and the top posts will be decided from there. I am confident that we are not fighting for positions in Amanah but focused on building the party,” he told Scoop today.

He added that there are other issues that the party needs to address, such as helping to strengthen the Madani administration and educate the public on Budget 2024, that is being tabled soon.

Amanah’s Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan said speculation ahead of any party election is to be expected.

“There is plenty of talk during the election season, it is not wrong for anyone to give their views. But the race for president, deputy president, and vice-presidents will be among the 27 people chosen by the delegates.”

He also did not deny that every time there is an election, there will be those who feel hurt in the process.

“This is (part of) politics, people aim for positions. But if they don’t get it, surely they feel slighted. Things like this will happen, it’s just how we want to manage it.

“Leaders come and go but most important is to ensure that the party is stable and strong.”

Previously, there were reports claiming that Mujahid may challenge party president Mohamad Sabu for the top spot, and that they belong to different factions.

According to Amanah’s constitution, the same person can only serve as president for three consecutive terms. If reappointed, this would be Mohamad’s last term to head the party. – September 29, 2023
