Zaid Ibrahim summoned to Bukit Aman tomorrow

Former law minister says he's being quizzed over alleged sedition

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim, is expected summoned to Bukit Aman for questioning tomorrow.

On social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Zaid said the police would be interrogating him under the Sedition Act and Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“I was hoping for a good weekend, but it will not be. Tomorrow, I will be questioned by Bukit Aman. Sedition, what else? With Sec 223 thrown in,” the former Law minister said in a posting.

“Why can’t they be more charitable to a harmless old man like me? I like to tweet. We have no time nor inclination for mischief, no time to incite or cause harm to anyone. Sometimes, we want to air our views to socialise and elucidate other viewpoints. Social media can be educational, too.”

However, the veteran lawyer did not mention the reason behind the questioning.

“We never ask them for favours, titles, or the chairmanship of agencies or GLCs. We never ask for DNAA,” he said, alluding to the government and the discharge not amounting to acquittal handed to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We only want a small space for ourselves to talk and think freely. Is that too much to ask?” – September 20, 2023
