KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno man Khairy Jamaluddin has slammed Lim Kit Siang over the DAP veteran’s brief comment on the recent discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Khairy, who is former Rembau MP, took a swipe at Lim’s response, saying “You have had so much to say about everything throughout your career, and you are now reduced to this?”
“If you read Kit Siang’s full statement (September 15), there is only this one sentence regarding the DNAA issue. Stunned. Shocked. That’s all. Is that it?
“The rest, he blames on Perikatan Nasional for allegedly dividing the society,” said Khairy in a Facebook post today.
Lim previously said in a statement that he was stunned and shocked by the DNAA development regarding Zahid’s DNAA.
The granting of DNAA to Zahid has been politicised since the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision on September 4.
Following widespread backlash from certain quarters critiquing the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) decision to request Zahid’s DNAA, Anwar said that former attorney-general (AG) Tan Sri Idrus Harun had decided to submit the application after reviewing the facts surrounding the case.
Previously, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli urged the public to be fair in its criticism of the government over the conditional discharge of Zahid from his graft trial.
Rafizi pointed out that rebukes would also have been voiced if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had ordered the AGC not to submit its request for a DNAA to be granted to Zahid.
“I think the public has to be fair; on one hand, (the public) doesn’t want any interference (from the government on Zahid’s DNAA), but on the other hand, (the public) wants (the government) to interfere.
“The fact is that the AG had decided to (inform) the prime minister of his decision (to request the DNAA). If you were (Anwar), would you tell him (the AG) to do otherwise?
“Doing so would mean interference (by the government), but when he (AG) decided on the DNAA and (Anwar) didn’t interfere, the public is now saying there was interference (by the government).”
The economic affairs minister also pointed out how Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, had allowed cabinet ministers to raise their concerns over Zahid’s DNAA as evidence of how the government has nothing to hide. – September 18, 2023
