You call us hypocrites? Dare to say the same for them?: Rayer challenges Syed Saddiq over ‘hypocrite’ claims

Jelutong MP demands to know if Muda president would brand Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin a hypocrite

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP lawmaker R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) has hit back at Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar-Muda) for labelling the unity government as hypocrites.

Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat, Rayer questioned whether “the MP from Muar” dared to do the same with opposition lawmakers who have allegedly done discriminatory actions, including former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN).

“I want to ask; there are MPs who dare use the word ‘pendatang’ (immigrant) on us, those who dared to ask vernacular schools be banned, but this MP calls us hypocrites?”

“Does he dare question the former prime minister who wanted vernacular schools banned, and MPs who caused the Sheraton move, like Pagoh (Muhyiddin)?

“What is the response of this MP? Dare he call Pagoh a hypocrite?” he asked during the debate of the 12MP midterm review.

Rayer also called on lawmakers not to emulate Syed Saddiq’s actions, adding that the latter was ungrateful for the efforts of Pakatan Harapan, its lawmakers, and machinery, which have helped him win the Muar seat in the last general elections.

On September 10, Syed Saddiq announced that Muda had withdrawn its support for the unity government and joined the opposition bench, in protest over Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s (Bagan Datuk-BN) discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA).

The next day, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang-PN) said his emergency motion to discuss the attorney-general’s explanation on the DNAA was rejected due to the order of business in the current Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Subsequently, the Muda president called the government hypocritical for not allowing the DNAA issue to be discussed in Dewan Rakyat, despite the fact that it was quick to criticise the former government for corruption and kleptocracy. – September 14, 2023
