MyEG urged to refund employers ‘misled’ by ‘illegal’ permit renewal services

Kota Melaka MP says firm had no right to accept submissions as Immigration Dept terminated its foreign worker renewal services, according to Khoo

KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s electronic services provider, MY E.G. Services Bhd (MyEG), should immediately return monies to foreign workers’ employers it had “misled”, urged Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka-PH).
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament today, the DAP lawmaker said that the Bursa-listed company has yet to refund employers who had been “deceived” into using its foreign worker permit renewal services – despite the Immigration Department having terminated the service.
“The application link on MyEG’s website (for employers to apply for a permit renewal) was removed when I checked this morning. At around 1pm yesterday, it was still accessible.
“The company must now return the money it had collected from employers. They had no right to be accepting submissions in the first place (since the government no longer accepts submissions from MyEG),” Khoo said.
Claiming that one of the affected employers had reached out to him to lament how he had forked out about RM20,000 for MyEG to renew the permits of his 10 foreign workers, Khoo slammed the firm for “lying” to its customers.
“Some of the employers had sent an e-mail to MyEG when they discovered that their workers’ permits had not been renewed despite the application having been made.
“In response, MyEG said that they are experiencing service disruptions and will process the application once the matter has been resolved.
“They are not telling the truth, as the reality is that the Immigration Department has discontinued its contract with MyEG,” Khoo said, adding that the matter requires serious attention from the government as part of its efforts to digitalise public services.
During his debate in Parliament on the 12th Malaysian Plan Mid-Term Review yesterday, Khoo asserted that MyEG was illegally renewing foreign workers’ permits, purportedly after its business licence was suspended in February.
He also alleged that the company had refused to provide refunds until employers showed proof of renewing the permit with the Immigration Department instead, calling on the department and police to investigate the matter for potential criminal elements.
Subsequently, MyEG issued a statement denying any misrepresentation in its online services, noting that all services continue to be provided in accordance with terms and conditions stipulated by the government.
It also said that Khoo’s accusations were his “personal opinion”.
In May, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Senator-PH) said that the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) project will replace the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) as the latter has become outdated and incapable of meeting future immigration needs.
