KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today met India’s superstar Rajinikanth at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

In a post on his social media accounts, Anwar shared several pictures of the jovial meeting and that they spoke about the eradication of misery and suffering.

“I appreciate the respect Rajinikanth has given to my struggles, especially on the issue of (eradicating) the people’s misery and suffering,” Anwar said in his post.

Anwar added that they had casually discussed the possible inclusion of some of the social issues he has always fought for in upcoming films by the renowned actor, who is one of Tamil cinema’s biggest names.

The comment sections of the posts are buzzing with excitement, with many users expressing their delight at the two figures meeting today.

Anwar is not the first Malaysian prime minister to meet Rajinikanth as the actor had previously posed with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a photo in India.

Another Indian film superstar, Kamal Haasan, had in the past endorsed Anwar’s political campaign during the Port Dickson by-election in 2018.

In May last year, Anwar, who was then opposition leader, had met with Kamal when the latter was in Malaysia for a promotional stint on his film Vikram. – September 11, 2023
