KUALA LUMPUR – PAS MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (Arau-PN) intends to question the government on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues in Parliament as the Dewan Rakyat convenes for a six-day special meeting on the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review.
In a press conference with other opposition lawmakers at the Parliament lobby, Shahidan said he wishes to question the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Tambun-PH) regarding which laws dictate enforcement action against 3R offences.
“Regarding 3R issues, I couldn’t find which laws the police have been referring to, but now, they (3R issues) are being discussed openly.
“What laws or acts (do 3R issues fall under)? The prime minister has superseded Parliament in deciding on this matter,” said Shahidan, who was flanked by opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (Kota Bharu-PN) and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang-PN), among others.
Previously, it was reported that police opened two investigation papers on Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) over allegedly making statements on 3R matters during the by-election campaigns in Pulai and Simpang Jeram, Johor.
Muhyiddin, who is also a former prime minister, is set to give his statement to police tomorrow to facilitate investigations.
This came after the Bersatu president reportedly issued a statement that it was “haram” to vote for PN opponents and also claimed that the Malays have lost power, alleging that the current government does not seem to understand the problems faced by Malays.
Police have also submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) their investigation paper on PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (Marang-PN) for his statements allegedly disputing the power of the Pardons Board in a campaign speech in Muar last month.
Meanwhile, Shahidan also said that he had submitted an emergency motion to debate the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk-PH) in his graft trial.
The motion, he said, has since been rejected by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Wan Fayhsal’s motion on the matter had also been denied by the speaker, who told members of the lower House that they would be given a chance to voice their issues in Parliament after Anwar had completed the tabling of today’s order of business.
Last Monday, Zahid was granted a DNAA on all 47 of his corruption, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering charges involving his foundation, Yayasan Akalbudi. He was also charged with accepting bribes when he was the home minister between 2013 and 2018.
The call was met with severe criticism from certain quarters, including the youth-based party Muda, which has since pulled support from the unity government through its sole parliamentary representative, party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar-Muda). – September 11, 2023
