KUALA LUMPUR — Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu is expected to reveal the real reason that his former party PAS left the-then Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition eight years ago following Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that it was due to DAP’s rejection of hudud laws.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu said he will address Hadi’s claims fully during a scheduled ceramah at Simpang Jeram, Muar, tonight.
“I will answer tomorrow (today) night on how the PAS president lied to the people. I will provide every detail at Simpang Jeram.
“I wasn’t a small fry, I was the former PAS deputy president. Do not lie to the rakyat with your kopiah (skullcap) on. No more,” he addressed the crowd during a ceramah at the Pulai parliament constituency, last night
In addition to claiming PAS leaving PR as DAP apparently rejected hudud, Hadi during a ceramah at the party’s office in Bakri on Saturday also claimed that the actions of a few PAS member and former party leader to start Amanah was due to the fear of losing the elections.
PR comprising then of PKR, DAP and PAS was formed in 2008 and had managed to prevent a two-thirds majority for Barisan Nasional (BN) in parliament in additon to winning the states of Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Perak.
However the coalition collapsed seven years later following PAS’ decision to end its ties with DAP.
Several PAS leaders including Mat Sabu proceeded to leave the Islamist party to form Amanah and became part of Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition at present. — August 28, 2023
