KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan will ditch the idea of having a separate theme and logo for this year’s state-level Merdeka celebrations, as opposed to the proposal that had been made by Perikatan Nasional Youth.
In a Facebook post, Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan announced that the PN-led state will adopt the federal government’s theme – ‘Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan’ – but tagging on a ‘Membangun Bersama Islam’ theme.
This comes after Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar confirmed that the state will use the federal government’s National Day logo and theme.
Similarly, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli had previously said the state would use the Malaysia Madani theme, but not the logo.
Last week, PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari proposed that PN-led states use different themes and logos for National Day celebrations.
However, the proposal led to the Pasir Mas MP being on the receiving end of brickbats by netizens, who said it was a rude move and might lead to more polarising politics.
Several party leaders under the PN coalition were also quick to deny its involvement in the alternative logo proposal, including Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Both leaders told Scoop the proposal was never discussed at the coalition nor party level and was instead Fadhli’s “personal view”.
Nonetheless, Fadhli defended the proposal, saying that the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government had used an alternative logo during its state-level celebrations last year. – August 23, 2023
