KUALA LUMPUR — The rescue of an injured ginger cat found at the site of the recent Beechcraft 390 plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam has tugged at netizens’ heartstrings.

Taking to Instagram to post several photos of the cat fondly called ‘Oyen’ (orange), the Zul Erwan Veterinary Clinic said that the feline was rescued by Health Ministry personnel on-duty at the crash site.

“This Oyen was at the accident location when the plane crashed in Elmina. Thank you to the Health Ministry’s ambulance team for rescuing Oyen,” the account said in its post yesterday.

One of the photos in the post depicts the animal in the ambulance en route to the veterinary clinic with a portion of its body censored, ostensibly to shield the public from details of the animal’s injury.

Commenting on the post, many users expressed their well-wishes for the cat while commiserating over how the animal must be in shock after having to bear witness to a terrifying ordeal.

“Get well soon, Oyen. You must be traumatised by the loud sounds (from the plane crash),” one user by the name of s_wani said.

Another user known as aisyahlii said that she cannot imagine the fear the cat must have felt during the incident while also conveying her gratitude to the Health Ministry’s workforce who had saved the animal instead of abandoning it.

On Thursday, the private plane crashed about two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang after its departure from the Langkawi International Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) later said that the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident.

The crash resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, one of whom was Pelangai state assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun who was laid to rest earlier today at the Raudhatul Sakinah Muslim burial ground in Batu Caves, Selangor.

Besides the two crew members and six passengers aboard the flight, other casualties of the crash are Foodpanda delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh and Grab car driver Sharipuddin Shaari. — August 20, 2023
